Ms. Andrea Anderson
Aspergers Class
Hello, my name is Andrea Anderson. I teach the Aspergers class. The aspergers class serves grades K-5 and offers social skill development and character enhancement while assisting students in academics based on individualized needs. Joining me in our classroom is our outstanding teacher assistant, Barbara DeLancey who assists in providing quality education as part of a team to meet our children’s needs.
I graduated from University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. I lived in Texas for 10 years where I received my certification in Special Education. I have taught students with varying disabilities for 9 years and have had targeted training with students with autism. I am a member of the National Autism Society and I have attended several state wide autism conferences for the past 5 years. I am certified to teach using the division TEACCH method (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children) and I have received the “highly qualified” designation in both Texas and Tennessee. I am happy to be at Amherst for my tenth year of teaching students and look forward to teaching the students in my classroom everyday.
